Instructions for NE558N:

  1. Power Supply:

    • Connect the supply voltage (Vcc) to pin 14 and ground (GND) to pin 7.
    • Ensure the supply voltage is within the range of 4.5V to 16V.
  2. Trigger Input (Pin 2):

    • Apply a low pulse (less than 1/3 Vcc) to trigger the timer.
    • Use a capacitor and resistor in series to create a timing circuit.
  3. Threshold Input (Pin 6):

    • Connect the threshold input to the same capacitor as the trigger input to control the timing.
    • The threshold voltage should be set to 2/3 Vcc for proper operation.
  4. Discharge Pin (Pin 7):

    • This pin is used to discharge the timing capacitor.
    • It can be connected directly to the capacitor to ground.
  5. Reset Input (Pin 4):

    • Apply a high signal (greater than 0.7V) to reset the timer.
    • If not used, connect it to Vcc to prevent accidental resets.
  6. Control Voltage (Pin 5):

    • This pin can be used to adjust the threshold and trigger levels.
    • If not used, connect it to ground through a 10nF capacitor to stabilize the internal comparator.
  7. Output (Pin 3):

    • The output can sink up to 200mA and source up to 100mA.
    • Use external transistors or drivers for higher current applications.
  8. Operating Temperature:

    • Ensure the device operates within the temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
  9. Layout Considerations:

    • Keep the power supply lines short and use decoupling capacitors (e.g., 100nF) close to the Vcc and GND pins to reduce noise.
  10. Testing:

    • Test the NE558N by applying a trigger pulse and measuring the output waveform with an oscilloscope to ensure correct timing and functionality.
