In the intense tropical humidity of KL and PJ, managing moisture is the most critical safety factor for a data hub. High relative humidity (RH) leads to condensation on cold server components, causing short circuits and "zinc whiskers," while low humidity triggers electrostatic discharge (ESD).
EKG M&E Sdn Bhd specializes in Precision Dehumidification, utilizing advanced HVAC logic to maintain a "Safe Zone" of 40% to 55% RH, ensuring your digital infrastructure remains dry, cool, and operational 24/7.
Data hubs have a very high Sensible Heat Ratio (SHR), meaning the equipment produces a lot of dry heat but very little moisture. Standard office air conditioners are designed to remove moisture from people (latent heat), but they often "over-dehumidify" or "short-cycle" in a server environment, leading to unstable conditions.
When humid air enters a cold server room, it can reach its Dew Point and condense into liquid water on the "Cold Aisle" or inside server chassis. Our systems utilize active monitoring to ensure the dew point is always kept below the temperature of the cooling surfaces.
In environments where humidity fluctuates significantly, microscopic conductive filaments (zinc whiskers) can grow from galvanized metal surfaces, eventually breaking off and short-circuiting sensitive PCB boards. Precise, stable humidity control is the only engineering defense against this phenomenon.
Reheat Coil Integration (Hot Gas or Electric)
To remove moisture without over-cooling the room, we use a "Reheat" cycle. The PAC (Precision Air Conditioning) unit cools the air to condense out moisture, then the reheat coil warms the dry air back to the target temperature before it enters the server racks.
Electrode Steam Humidifiers
If the air becomes too dry (which can happen during heavy cooling cycles), the system automatically activates an electrode steam humidifier. This injects "clean" steam into the airflow to maintain the minimum 40% RH needed to prevent static electricity.
VFD-Driven Latent Heat Control
We utilize Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to adjust fan speeds. By slowing the airflow over the cooling coil, we increase the contact time, allowing the coil to strip more moisture from the air more efficiently.
Treated Fresh Air (TFA) Dehumidification
We don't allow raw KL air into your data hub. Our TFA units act as a "Moisture Gateway," pre-cooling and drying all incoming ventilation air so the internal PAC units only have to manage the heat from the servers.
Vapor Barrier & Room Sealing
As an M&E specialist, we audit the "Room Envelope." We ensure all cable penetrations and doors are sealed to prevent humid air from "leaking" into the controlled zone from the ceiling void or surrounding offices.
