EKG Project Update: Power Factor Correction & Electrical Infrastructure at Jalan Chan Sow Lin

Kuala Lumpur | April 6, 2026EKG M&E Sdn Bhd has successfully completed a specialized electrical upgrade for an industrial facility in the Jalan Chan Sow Lin district. Our team focused on enhancing the site’s power efficiency through the precision installation of high-capacity contactors and capacitor banks.

POWER FACTOR OPTIMIZATION & ELECTRICAL STABILITY

Scope of Work: Capacitor Bank Installation, Magnetic Contactor Integration, and Power Quality Testing

1. Project Overview

Industrial operations in high-density zones like Jalan Chan Sow Lin often face challenges with "reactive power," which can lead to inefficient energy usage and costly penalties from utility providers. EKG was commissioned to install a Power Factor Correction (PFC) system designed to stabilize the electrical load and optimize the facility’s overall energy consumption.

2. Technical Execution

Our electrical specialists implemented a robust solution to improve the building’s power quality:

  • Capacitor Bank Deployment: We installed high-performance capacitor banks to offset the inductive loads typical of industrial machinery. This reduces the "demand" on the main transformer, allowing the electrical system to run cooler and more efficiently.

  • Industrial Contactor Integration: To manage the switching of these heavy loads, we integrated heavy-duty magnetic contactors. These components ensure that the capacitor banks are engaged only when needed, providing automated and safe electrical switching.

  • Wiring & Busbar Configuration: Our team executed precision wiring and busbar connections within the main switchboard (MSB). Every connection was torque-tested to prevent hotspots and ensure long-term reliability under high-load conditions.

  • Power Factor Testing: Post-installation, we conducted live testing to verify that the system successfully achieved the target Power Factor (PF) of 0.95 or higher, ensuring compliance with local utility regulations.

3. Project Outcome & Value Delivered

  • Utility Cost Reduction: By improving the power factor, the client will see a significant reduction in "Maximum Demand" charges and avoid low power factor surcharges on their monthly electricity bill.

  • Infrastructure Longevity: Reducing the reactive power load decreases the stress on cables, switchgear, and transformers, extending the lifespan of the entire electrical distribution system.

  • Operational Stability: The new contactors provide a reliable, automated response to changing electrical demands, minimizing the risk of voltage drops or system trips.
