Description

Kitchen Story Sdn. Bhd. provided custom carpentry solutions and interior fit-out support for the renovation of Mamu Daun Pisang, a Penang F&B restaurant designed with a strong tropical, modern mamak-inspired dining concept.

The project involved carpentry works for a high-traffic restaurant environment, including long built-in seating, wall panel backing, ceiling timber-strip features, counter-facing carpentry support, decorative fit-out elements and installation coordination. The interior combines warm timber tones, tropical wall graphics, rattan lighting, greenery and bold orange upholstered seating to create a memorable dining experience for customers.

As an F&B space, the carpentry needed to be both visually attractive and practical for daily operation. Kitchen Story focused on creating durable built-in elements that support customer seating, brand identity and long-term commercial use.

Scope of Work

Kitchen Story’s carpentry and fit-out scope included:

Custom Built-In Seating Support
Long bench seating structure with upholstered backrest support, designed for restaurant dining comfort and space efficiency.

Wall Carpentry & Feature Backing
Timber and panel preparation to support the tropical feature wall and long dining area presentation.

Ceiling Timber Strip Feature
Installation support for the warm timber ceiling detail, helping to create a strong visual identity across the restaurant space.

Counter & Commercial Carpentry Elements
Carpentry support around service and counter areas to match the restaurant’s operational layout.

On-Site Measurement & Installation
Site coordination, measurement checking and installation works based on actual site conditions.

Commercial Fit-Out Coordination
Practical carpentry planning to match lighting, wall finishes, seating layout, signage and the overall restaurant concept.

Design Concept

The interior design direction focuses on a tropical mamak dining experience with a modern commercial finish. The combination of bold signage, warm timber ceiling strips, patterned floor tiles, greenery, rattan pendant lights and orange upholstered seating gives the restaurant a strong visual character.

The carpentry works helped to connect the full design concept together by providing structure, alignment and finishing detail for the dining area, seating zone and restaurant feature elements.

Challenges & Solutions

1. High-Traffic Restaurant Usage

Challenge:
F&B spaces experience heavy daily usage. Seating, wall finishes and carpentry details must withstand constant customer movement, cleaning and daily operation.

Solution:
Kitchen Story focused on practical carpentry installation, strong alignment and durable built-in support for the long seating area. The carpentry was planned to suit commercial use while maintaining the restaurant’s visual appeal.

2. Long Seating Area Alignment

Challenge:
The restaurant uses a long built-in bench seating design along the wall. Long linear carpentry works require accurate leveling, consistent spacing and proper fixing to avoid uneven finishing.

Solution:
Our team carried out on-site checking and installation coordination to ensure the seating backrest and wall carpentry were aligned properly across the full dining stretch.

3. Coordination With Decorative Wall, Lighting & Ceiling

Challenge:
The restaurant concept includes tropical wall graphics, hanging greenery, rattan pendant lights, exposed ceiling works and timber ceiling strips. These elements needed to work together without creating a messy appearance.

Solution:
The carpentry works were coordinated with the overall renovation design so that the timber ceiling, seating, wall backing and decorative features could blend into one complete restaurant environment.

4. Balancing Brand Identity & Functionality

Challenge:
The outlet needed to look attractive and memorable while still functioning as a practical restaurant for staff and customers.

Solution:
Kitchen Story supported the renovation with carpentry elements that helped strengthen the brand image while keeping the space practical, comfortable and suitable for daily F&B operation.

5. Site Condition & Installation Timing

Challenge:
Commercial renovation projects often involve multiple trades working at the same time, including electrical, lighting, ceiling, flooring, signage, wall finishing and carpentry.

Solution:
Our team worked according to site progress and coordinated installation with other renovation works to reduce unnecessary delay and ensure the carpentry could be completed smoothly.
