Description
Clip-On Split Core Current Transformer
SP Series Split Core CT Clip-On Type
The SP Series clip-on split core current transformer is designed for retrofit metering and monitoring applications where the existing cable should not be disconnected.
Its openable clip-on construction allows the CT to be installed around existing conductors, making it practical for energy monitoring upgrades, sub-metering, digital energy audits, EMS, BMS, SCADA and IoTWatt 4.0 projects.

Product Overview
Clip-on split core CTs are used when current measurement needs to be added to an existing electrical installation with minimal disruption. The CT opens and clips around the conductor, which helps reduce installation time compared with solid-core CTs that require conductor disconnection.
The SP Series can be used with compatible power meters, multifunction meters, energy meters, BMS, EMS, SCADA systems, data loggers and IoTWatt 4.0 gateways. It is suitable for feeder-level, machine-level and distribution-board-level current measurement.
Positioning: Clip-on split core CT for retrofit metering, sub-metering, EMS, control and industrial monitoring applications.
Why Clip-On CTs Matter
For many existing panels, the fastest way to add metering is not to dismantle the conductor. A clip-on CT makes this practical, especially for smaller feeders and retrofit energy monitoring points.
- Fast retrofit metering
- No cable disconnection
- Reduced installation work
- Feeder monitoring
- Machine monitoring
- Sub-metering
- Energy audit points
Applications and Best-Fit Sites
- Energy metering
- Sub-metering
- EMS / BMS / SCADA
- IoTWatt 4.0 projects
- Demand monitoring
- Energy audit measurement
- Tenant metering
- Machine-level monitoring
- DB feeder monitoring
- MCC panels
- Retrofit panels
- Energy-saving projects

Why Use Clip-On Split Core CTs?
Existing Cable Installation
Useful when metering is added after the electrical installation is already completed.
Lower Installation Time
Reduces installation work compared with solid-core CTs that require cable disconnection.
Feeder-Level Visibility
Supports feeder, machine, production line, tenant and distribution board monitoring.
Energy Audit Ready
Useful for creating extra measurement points for digital energy audit evidence.
Compact Metering Upgrade
Practical for EMS, BMS, SCADA and IoTWatt 4.0 retrofit projects.
Power Meter Integration
Works with compatible multifunction meters, RS485 meters and gateway-based monitoring systems.
Installation and Commissioning Notes
Correct CT installation is important for accurate current, kW and energy measurement. The CT ratio must be configured correctly in the connected meter, and the CT must be installed in the correct direction where power direction is important.
- Confirm CT ratio
- Confirm 5A or 1A meter input
- Check CT window size
- Check cable diameter
- Install with correct polarity
- Check kW direction
- Check phase matching
- Check burden and cable length
Safety note: CT installation should be performed by competent electrical personnel. For 5A / 1A CTs, the CT secondary circuit should not be left open while current is flowing in the primary conductor.
Integration with Energy Monitoring Systems
The SP Series can be connected to compatible multifunction meters and power meters, which then communicate to EMS, BMS, SCADA or IoTWatt 4.0 through RS485, Ethernet, gateway or data logger integration.
- Multifunction meters
- Power meters
- kWh meters
- RS485 meters
- IoTWatt 4.0 gateways
- Current monitoring
- kW / kWh monitoring
- Demand monitoring
- Load profiling
- Tenant allocation
- Energy audit measurement
- EECA reporting support
- Savings verification
Recommended CT Selection Checklist
- Confirm cable diameter
- Confirm primary current range
- Confirm CT ratio
- Confirm 5A or 1A secondary
