Product Overview
Split core CTs are useful when energy monitoring or metering points must be added to existing electrical installations. The bolt-on construction provides a secure mechanical assembly around the conductor while avoiding the need to dismantle busbars or disconnect power cables.
The SPD Series is commonly used with multifunction meters, power meters, energy management systems, demand monitoring systems, data loggers, PLCs, BMS, EMS and IoTWatt 4.0 projects.
Positioning: Retrofit bolt-on split core CT for metering, sub-metering, energy monitoring and industrial electrical measurement applications.
Why Split Core CTs Matter
In existing panels, downtime and rewiring cost can be the biggest barrier to adding metering points. A split core CT helps reduce installation complexity.
- Retrofit metering
- No cable disconnection
- Reduced shutdown work

Selection note: Select the CT based on conductor or busbar size, primary current, required secondary output, total burden of the connected meter and cable, and required accuracy class.
Dimension Reference
Confirm the available panel space, conductor size and mounting clearance before selecting the CT window size. For busbar systems, check both the conductor dimension and the available installation access.
Why Use Bolt-On Split Core CTs?
Existing Panels
Useful for retrofit projects where cables or busbars are already installed.
Lower Installation Disruption
Reduces the need for conductor removal compared with solid-core CTs.
Feeder-Level Visibility
Supports DB, MCC, tenant, process, machine and utility feeder monitoring.
Energy Audit Ready
Useful for creating additional metering points for digital energy audit evidence.
Different Window Sizes
Available in multiple window dimensions for cable and busbar applications.
Meter Integration
Works with compatible multifunction meters, RS485 meters and IoTWatt 4.0 gateways.
Installation and Commissioning Notes
Correct CT selection and installation are important for reliable measurement. The CT ratio must match the meter setting, the secondary wiring must be correctly connected, and the CT should be installed in the correct direction where power direction or kW measurement is required.
- Confirm primary current rating
- Confirm 5A or 1A meter input
- Confirm CT ratio setting
- Check burden and cable length
- Install with correct polarity
- Check kW direction
- Check phase matching
- Short CT secondary safely during maintenance
Safety note: CT installation should be carried out by competent electrical personnel. For 5A / 1A CTs, the secondary circuit must not be left open while current is flowing in the primary conductor.
Integration with Energy Monitoring Systems
The SPD Series can be used with compatible power meters, multifunction meters and energy monitoring systems. It is suitable for IoTWatt 4.0 Digital Energy Audit and energy management projects where multiple feeders, machines, DBs or utility sections need to be monitored.
