Nippon Paint 1-Pack PU Timbercoat is a high-performance, polyurethane-based wood finish specifically designed for the decoration and protection of exterior wood surfaces. Unlike standard varnishes, this 1-pack polyurethane formula offers superior durability, flexibility, and resistance to UV radiation and weathering. It is a translucent pigmented coating that enhances the natural beauty of the wood grain while providing a tough, water-repellent barrier. It is ideal for high-exposure areas such as pergolas, fences, door frames, fascia boards, and outdoor furniture. Its anti-fungus and anti-cracking properties ensure that wood surfaces remain protected against the harsh tropical climate.
Paint Type: Solvent-based (One-Pack Polyurethane)
Finishing: High Gloss
Binder: Polyurethane Modified Alkyd
Color: Range of translucent wood tones (e.g., Teak, Mahogany, Charcoal, etc.)
Thinning: Ready for use. If thinning is required, use maximum 5% Nippon Terpentine.
Touch Dry: 2 hours (depending on temperature and humidity)
Hard Dry: 8 hours
Recoating Interval: Minimum 8 hours
Theoretical Coverage: 10 – 12 m² per litre per coat (Subject to wood porosity)
Shelf Life: Up to 36 months in a tightly sealed container
Mixing: Stir the contents thoroughly with a clean paddle before use. Do not shake the can, as this may introduce air bubbles into the thick PU film.
Application Method: Apply using a high-quality soft-bristle Brush or Roller.
Technique: Apply in the direction of the wood grain. For the first coat, thin with 5-10% turpentine to allow better penetration. Subsequent coats should be applied undiluted.
Cleaning: Clean all brushes and tools with Nippon Terpentine or General Purpose Thinner immediately after use.
Note: For exterior surfaces exposed to direct sunlight, a minimum of 3 coats is recommended for maximum UV protection.
First Coat (Sealer): 1-Pack PU Timbercoat (diluted 5–10% with turpentine).
Intermediate Coat: 1-Pack PU Timbercoat (undiluted).
Topcoat: 1-Pack PU Timbercoat (undiluted).
Note: Do not use sanding sealer as a base for exterior PU coatings, as it may affect the inter-coat adhesion and weather resistance.
General Cleaning: Surfaces must be structurally sound, dry, clean, and free from dirt, grease, wax, and loose matter.
New Wood: Sand the surface along the wood grain using Grade #240 or #320 sandpaper. Wipe off all dust with a damp cloth and allow to dry completely.
Previously Painted Wood: Remove all old, flaking varnish or opaque paint by sanding or using a paint remover until the bare wood is exposed.
Moisture Content: Ensure wood moisture content is below 12% to prevent blistering, peeling, or internal rot.
Biological Treatment: If fungus or algae is present, treat the area with Nippon Paint Fungicidal Wash and allow it to dry before application.
