KL–JB ETS Emerges as Third Most Popular Route Within Three Months of Launch

PETALING JAYA — The Electric Train Service (ETS) route from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru has become the third most popular line on the ETS network just three months after its launch, according to data from the data.gov.my portal.

Since its launch on 12 December 2025, the KL Sentral–JB Sentral route recorded 69,628 passengers up to 8 April 2026. It ranks behind the KL Sentral–Ipoh route with 122,406 passengers and KL Sentral–Butterworth with 86,090 passengers.

JB Sentral is currently the only southern destination among the top 10 busiest ETS routes from KL Sentral, while other high-demand routes are concentrated in the northern region.

The highest daily ridership for the KL–JB route was recorded on 21 March during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, with 1,196 passengers, followed by 955 passengers on 17 February during the Chinese New Year period.

The service also recorded strong demand from other stations, including Kluang with 21,751 passengers and Segamat with 8,967 passengers.

The KL–JB ETS service was launched following the completion of the Gemas–Johor Bahru Electrified Double-Tracking Project (EDTP), with four daily services connecting the Klang Valley to Johor Bahru.
