Nippon Paint Timber Finish is a high-quality, translucent pigment varnish specifically formulated to enhance and protect the natural beauty of wood surfaces. This solvent-based decorative wood finish is engineered with excellent UV resistance and water repellency, making it ideal for both interior and exterior applications. Unlike opaque paints, Timber Finish penetrates deep into the wood fibers, highlighting the natural wood grain while providing a flexible film that resists cracking, peeling, and blistering. It is highly durable and contains anti-fungus properties, ensuring long-lasting protection for furniture, door frames, fences, and deckings.
Paint Type: Solvent-based (Varnish)
Finishing: High Gloss
Binder: Alkyd Resin
Color: Range of natural wood tones (e.g., Teak, Oak, Mahogany, Walnut)
Thinning: Ready for use. If required, use maximum 5% – 10% Nippon Terpentine.
Touch Dry: 2 – 3 hours (depending on temperature and humidity)
Hard Dry: 8 – 10 hours
Recoating Interval: Minimum 8 hours
Theoretical Coverage: 10 – 12 m² per litre per coat (Subject to wood porosity)
Shelf Life: Up to 36 months in a tightly sealed container
Mixing: Stir the contents thoroughly with a clean paddle before and during use. Do not shake the can to avoid air bubbles.
Application Method: Apply using a high-quality soft-bristle Brush or Roller.
Technique: Apply thin, even coats in the direction of the wood grain. Avoid over-application, as thick coats may result in a tacky finish or uneven drying.
Cleaning: Clean all brushes and tools with Nippon Terpentine or General Purpose Thinner immediately after use.
Note: For exterior surfaces, at least 3 coats are recommended for maximum UV protection.
First Coat (Primer): Timber Finish (diluted 10% with turpentine to act as a penetrative sealer).
Subsequent Coats (Topcoat): 2 – 3 coats of Timber Finish (undiluted).
Maintenance: For previously stained wood in good condition, a single maintenance coat is usually sufficient after light sanding.
General Cleaning: Wood surfaces must be dry, clean, and free from dirt, grease, wax, and loose matter.
New Wood: Sand the surface in the direction of the grain using Grade #240 or #320 sandpaper until smooth. Wipe off all sanding dust with a damp cloth and allow to dry.
Previously Painted/Varnished Wood: All previous opaque paint or old, flaking varnish must be completely removed by sanding or using a paint remover to reveal the bare wood.
Moisture Content: Ensure the moisture content of the timber is below 12% – 15% before application to prevent blistering or rot.
Fungus/Algae: If fungus is present, treat with Nippon Paint Fungicidal Wash and allow to dry before coating.
