Academic Reading and Writing 2
  • There has been a need to continually improve the English quality of our students and provide them constant support at their Diploma levels. The module is designed for students to work intensively on their reading and writing skills. This is a more intensive module that improves students reading and writing skills, as these are the keys to understanding their subjects and effectively engage in class activities. These classes will address a variety of key demands of writing and reading assignments on their courses, focusing on both academic and language skills and the ability to write. The module will be delivered in a blended-learning environment, where students will have the opportunity to experiment and learn via both online and face-to-face lessons.
Principles of Hospitality Management
  • This module aims to provide students with an overview of the hospitality services industry. It also looks at the industry’s role in the tourism sector, its relationship with other players in the tourism industry, and the external environment that shapes the industry. This module is designed to orientate students in exciting and multifaceted fields surrounding the hospitality industry. It aims to prepare students for a career in hospitality through the provision of hands-on examples and how-to aspects of the hotel industry. It also serves as a foundation module for other hospitality modules in this course.
Destination and Tourism Management
  • This introductory tourism module introduces students to the fundamental concepts of travel and tourism; including an understanding of the dynamics of the travel industry and the concept of the tourism system as an amalgamation of numerous service providers and industry players. The module also examines the economic, socio-cultural, technological and environmental impacts considered in tourism development and planning. Finally, students can apply concepts discussed in an integrative case study on travel and tourism.
Foodservice Operations and Management
  • The food services sector is an exciting industry segment involving a wide range of establishments  from restaurants, cafeterias and fast food outlets to companies in the managed services sector such as airlines, recreation and institutional facilities. This module is designed to acquaint students with basic concepts and practices relating to the food and beverage service management, which can be readily applied to all types of food service operations. Critical aspects of food services and restaurant management will be covered. These include menu planning, food safety, purchasing, and food production, right through to service delivery, facilities planning and design, equipment and furnishing selection, and environmental management.
Accommodation Operations
  • This module aims to reinforce some of the knowledge that students have learnt in the introduction to hospitality management module and will introduce additional operational aspects of accommodation services and lodging operations. It will cover the operational and management aspects of the division of rooms in a hotel, which includes front office functions, reservations, revenue management, and uniformed services. Students will develop a broad-based understanding of the various operations and management functions in the division of rooms, coordination and communication within and between the departments.
Principles of Accounting
  • The module provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamental principles of financial accounting and management accounting. It takes students through the entire process of accounting that includes recording, classifying and summarising accounting information into reports for decision making. It also introduces students to the double-entry system, the need for adjusting entries, the use of special accounts, and the preparation of financial statements. The module also includes budget preparation and management accounting techniques for business decision making. Students are also introduced to current issues such as ethical practices and social responsibility.
Marketing for Tourism and Hospitality
  • This module introduces important marketing principles to students, while focusing on the application of strategic and tactical marketing concepts and theories to the marketing of tourism and hospitality-related products and services. It will examine consumer and organisational buying behaviours, the marketing mix and marketing strategies that help participants develop a better understanding of how marketing tools can be integrated and effectively used in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Esports Tourism
  • This module delves into the rapidly growing phenomenon of esports tourism, exploring it beyond the event itself. Students will examine the intersection of esports, a global competitive video game phenomenon, and tourism. The module focuses on the travel motivations of esports fans, destination marketing strategies, and the economic impact of this unique tourism segment. Through lectures, tutorials, e-learning activities, and a collaborative project, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of esports tourism trends, audience behaviour, and business opportunities.
Events Management
  • This module introduces the exciting world of events management. Students will gain a strong foundation in the key principles, processes, and skills required to plan, organise, and execute successful events. Through lectures, tutorials, e-learning activities, and a collaborative group project, students will explore various event types, budgeting, marketing, logistics, risk management, and the legal considerations involved. By the end of the module, students will be well-equipped to start their journey in the events industry.
