The Gemmed Cat Snake is a stunning subspecies of the Mangrove Snake found in Sulawesi. While the standard Mangrove Snake has thick yellow bands, the gemmicincta is much darker. They are typically jet black with very thin, broken yellow bands or spots—and some individuals are entirely solid black (melanistic). They possess the classic large head and vertical pupils of the Boiga genus.
Notes Temperament: Like all Mangrove Snakes, they are defensive and known for their "open mouth" threat display. They are rear-fanged and require careful handling.
Visuals: The reduced yellow pattern gives them a sleek, modern look compared to the common "bumblebee" pattern of B. d. dendrophila.
