Nippon Paint Slate Finish (Gloss) is a premium solvent-based acrylic clear coat specifically formulated to protect and enhance the natural beauty of stone and masonry surfaces. This high-gloss coating acts as a powerful protective shield against the elements, providing excellent water resistance and UV protection to prevent surfaces from dulling or weathering.
Ideal for both interior and exterior use, it is the go-to choice for enhancing the "wet look" of slate, natural stone, brickwork, and cementitious substrates. Beyond aesthetics, it prevents fungal and algae growth, ensuring your stone features remain pristine and easy to maintain for years to come.
Binder Type: Modified Acrylic Resin for superior clarity and durability.
Finish: High Gloss (provides a deep, wet-look shine).
Drying Time (at 30°C): Touch Dry in 30 minutes; Hard Dry in 1 hour.
Recocoating Interval: Minimum 1–2 hours between coats.
Theoretical Coverage: 10 – 12 m² per litre per coat (varies based on substrate porosity).
Volume Solids: Approximately 25% ± 2%.
Shelf Life: Up to 24 months in a tightly sealed container.
Thinning: This product is supplied ready-to-use. Thinning is generally not recommended as it may reduce the gloss level and protective thickness. If necessary, use a small amount of Nippon Paint OP-1 Thinner.
Mixing: Stir the liquid thoroughly before use to ensure a consistent viscosity throughout the application.
Method: Apply using a high-quality brush, roller, or spray gun. Ensure an even application to avoid "ponding" or thick spots on uneven stone surfaces.
Standard Masonry/Stone System:
First Coat: 1 coat of Nippon Paint Slate Finish (Gloss) (acts as a penetrative sealer).
Second Coat: 1 coat of Nippon Paint Slate Finish (Gloss) (builds the gloss and protective barrier).
For Highly Porous Surfaces:
A third coat may be applied to achieve a uniform, high-gloss "wet look" if the substrate absorbs the first two coats heavily.
Moisture Check: Ensure the surface is completely dry. Moisture trapped under the film can cause whitening (blushing) or peeling. Concrete should be cured for at least 28 days.
Cleaning: Remove all dirt, grease, moss, algae, and loose particles using a stiff brush and water. Allow the surface to dry thoroughly after cleaning.
Efflorescence Removal: Any white powdery salts (efflorescence) must be removed with a mild acid solution or mechanical brushing before application.
Old Coatings: Previously painted or sealed surfaces must be stripped or sanded down to the raw substrate if the old coating is incompatible or peeling.
Environmental Factors: Do not apply during rain or if rain is expected within 4 hours, as water contact before the hard dry stage will ruin the finish.
