Nippon Paint Protective Finish FD (Fast Dry) is a high-quality, alkyd-based gloss finish specifically designed for the protection and decoration of iron, steel, and wood surfaces. Its "Fast Dry" formulation is a significant advantage for industrial and commercial projects, allowing for quicker handling and assembly of painted components, thereby reducing downtime and increasing productivity.
This finish provides a tough, durable, and high-gloss film that resists weathering and general wear. When used in combination with a proper primer, it offers excellent corrosion resistance, making it ideal for factory structures, machinery, metal gates, and timber surfaces in mild industrial or domestic environments.
Binder Type: Modified Alkyd Resin for rapid drying and high-gloss retention.
Drying Time (at 30°C): Touch Dry in approximately 20–30 minutes; Hard Dry in 4 hours.
Recocoating Interval: Minimum 4 hours between coats to ensure film stability.
Theoretical Coverage: 10.0 – 12.0 m² per litre per coat (at 35 microns Dry Film Thickness).
Volume Solids: Approximately 45% ± 2% by volume.
Finish: High Gloss (provides a brilliant, reflective aesthetic).
Shelf Life: Up to 24 months in an unopened, cool, and dry container.
Mixing: Stir the paint thoroughly with a clean paddle before use to ensure uniform color and consistency, as pigments may settle during storage.
Thinning: For conventional spray application, thin with 10–15% Nippon Paint General Purpose Thinner. For brush or roller, thinning is generally not required (max 5% if necessary).
Method: Apply in 2 even coats. For a professional industrial finish, use Conventional Air Spray with a nozzle size of 1.3mm – 1.5mm. For smaller areas, use a high-quality natural bristle brush.
For Metal/Steel Surfaces:
Primer: 1 coat of Zinc Phosphate Primer FD or Red Oxide Primer FD.
Topcoat: 2 coats of Protective Finish FD.
For Timber/Wood Surfaces:
Undercoat: 1 coat of Nippon Paint 9000 Undercoat.
Topcoat: 2 coats of Protective Finish FD.
Degreasing: For steel, remove all traces of oil, grease, and processing lubricants using solvent cleaning (SSPC-SP1).
Rust Removal: Remove loose rust and mill scale using power tool cleaning to St 3 or hand tool cleaning to St 2.
Wood Preparation: For timber, ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from sap. Sand along the grain to a smooth finish and wipe away dust.
Old Paint: If repainting, remove all loose or flaking paint. Lightly sand existing glossy coatings to provide a "key" for the new paint layer to adhere to.
Dryness & Humidity: Ensure the substrate is completely dry. Do not apply during rain or if the relative humidity exceeds 85%, as this can cause the gloss to "bloom" or turn hazy.
