Nippon Paint Timber Finish is a premium translucent pigmented varnish specifically formulated to enhance and protect the natural beauty of wood surfaces. Unlike solid paints, this high-performance coating penetrates deep into the wood fibers, highlighting the natural grain while providing a rich, decorative color.
Designed for both interior and exterior applications, it acts as a powerful barrier against the elements. It is enriched with UV-resistant pigments to prevent the wood from darkening or fading under intense sunlight and contains special fungicidal agents to inhibit the growth of mold and algae. Whether used for pergolas, door frames, or garden furniture, Timber Finish ensures a long-lasting, flexible, and weather-resistant shield.
Binder Type: High-quality Alkyd Resin.
Finishing: High Gloss (Translucent).
Drying Time (at 30°C): Touch Dry in 3 hours; Hard Dry in 12 hours.
Recocoating Interval: Minimum 24 hours between coats for optimal curing and adhesion.
Theoretical Coverage: 10 – 12 m² per litre per coat (varies significantly based on wood absorption).
Volume Solids: Approximately 40% – 45%.
Special Features: Excellent abrasion resistance, flexible film (resists cracking), and lead/mercury free.
Mixing: Stir the contents thoroughly with a clean paddle before and during use. Do not shake the can, as this creates air bubbles that may remain trapped in the finish.
Thinning: This product is ready-to-use. Thinning is not recommended as it reduces the concentration of UV absorbers and the thickness of the protective film.
Method: Apply using a high-quality soft-bristle brush. Always apply in the direction of the wood grain. For the best result and deepest color, 2–3 coats are recommended.
New Interior/Exterior Wood:
First Coat: 1 coat of Timber Finish (acts as the penetrative sealer).
Finish: 2 coats of Timber Finish (to build the gloss and UV protection).
Maintenance/Refurbishment:
Finish: 1–2 coats of Timber Finish (after proper cleaning and light sanding of the old sound coating).
Sanding: Sand the wood surface thoroughly along the grain using #240 or #320 grit sandpaper to ensure it is smooth and the pores are open for penetration.
Cleaning: The surface must be clean, dry, and free from wax, grease, dirt, and loose wood fibers. Wipe away all sanding dust with a tack cloth or a rag dampened with thinner.
Moisture Content: Ensure the wood is seasoned and dry (moisture content below 15%). Excess moisture can cause the varnish to blister or peel.
Old Coating Removal: Previously painted or thick varnished surfaces must be stripped down to the bare wood using a paint remover or heavy sanding to allow Timber Finish to penetrate.
Fungus Treatment: If the wood shows signs of fungal growth, treat it with a fungicidal wash and allow it to dry completely before applying the first coat.
