Nippon Paint Timbershade is a premium water-based acrylic emulsion paint specifically formulated for the protection and decoration of wood, fiber cement boards, and galvanized iron surfaces. It is a highly versatile, high-performance solution for both interior and exterior applications, providing a beautiful "Low Sheen" finish that is as durable as it is aesthetic.
Unlike traditional oil-based wood coatings, Timbershade is fast-drying, low-odor, and environmentally friendly. It is engineered with a tough, flexible film that can withstand the expansion and contraction of wood while offering excellent resistance against UV rays, weathering, fungus, and algae. Whether used on garden fences, wooden trims, or industrial fiber cement panels, it delivers vibrant, solid colors with long-lasting protection.
Paint Type: Water-based Acrylic Emulsion.
Finishing: Low Sheen.
Drying Time (at 30°C): Touch Dry in 30 minutes; Hard Dry in 1 hour.
Recoating Interval: Minimum 2–3 hours between coats.
Theoretical Coverage: 10 – 12 m² per litre per coat (varies based on substrate porosity).
Volume Solids: Approximately 35% ± 2%.
Special Features: Non-added lead and mercury; UV and weathering resistance.
Mixing: Stir the paint thoroughly with a clean paddle before use to ensure the color pigments and resin are perfectly homogenized.
Thinning: Timbershade is ready for use. For application on highly porous surfaces, you may dilute with a maximum of 5% clean water. Over-thinning will reduce opacity and film durability.
Method: Apply using a high-quality brush or roller. For galvanized iron or complex wood grains, brushing is recommended for the first coat to ensure the paint is worked into the surface.
For Wood Surfaces:
Undercoat: 1 coat of Nippon Paint Economy Undercoat (to seal the wood and provide build).
Finish: 2 coats of Nippon Paint Timbershade.
For Galvanized Iron (G.I.):
Primer: 1 coat of Nippon Paint 1K Etching Primer or Etching Primer 120.
Finish: 2 coats of Nippon Paint Timbershade.
For Fiber Cement Boards:
Finish: 2 coats of Nippon Paint Timbershade (Self-priming system; however, a sealer like 5100 Wall Sealer is recommended for alkaline surfaces).
General Cleaning: Ensure the surface is dry and free from dirt, grease, oil, and other contaminants. For oily wood, wipe with a suitable solvent.
Wood Prep: Smoothen the wood surface with sandpaper (Grade #240 or #320) in the direction of the grain. Clean off all dust before painting.
Galvanized Iron Prep: Remove any white rust or oxidation using a wire brush or sandpaper. Ensure the surface is chemically cleaned if it has been recently galvanized.
Mold & Fungus: If the substrate is affected by biological growth, treat it with Nippon Paint Fungicidal Wash. Allow it to dry completely and scrape off dead growth before priming.
Existing Coatings: Scrape off all loose or flaking paint. For previously painted surfaces in good condition, lightly sand the surface to provide a "key" for better adhesion of the water-based system.
