Nippon Paint Fibercote is a high-quality, water-based acrylic coating specifically developed for the protection and decoration of fiber cement surfaces. Fiber cement materials, such as wood-replacement planks (siding), eaves, and fascia boards, require a specialized coating that can handle their high alkalinity and porous nature.
Fibercote is engineered to penetrate deep into the substrate, providing excellent adhesion and a rich, durable color that mimics the appearance of natural wood. Formulated with advanced UV-resistant pigments, it prevents the surface from fading under harsh tropical sunlight. It also features powerful anti-fungal and anti-algae properties, ensuring that exterior fiber cement features remain clean and aesthetically pleasing for years.
Paint Type: Water-based Acrylic.
Finishing: Low Sheen (Satin-like appearance).
Drying Time (at 30°C): Touch Dry in 30 minutes; Hard Dry in 1 hour.
Recoating Interval: Minimum 2–3 hours between coats.
Theoretical Coverage: 10 – 12 m² per litre per coat (subject to substrate porosity).
Volume Solids: Approximately 35% – 38%.
Special Features: Excellent alkali resistance, non-yellowing, and lead/mercury free.
Stirring: Stir the paint thoroughly with a clean paddle before use. Because Fibercote contains specialized pigments to simulate wood tones, consistent stirring is vital to maintain color uniformity.
Thinning: Ready for use. For the first coat on very porous fiber cement, you may thin with up to 5% clean water to act as a "penetrative sealer." Subsequent coats should be applied undiluted.
Method: Apply using a high-quality brush or roller. To achieve a "natural wood grain" effect, it is recommended to apply the paint in long, continuous strokes following the texture of the fiber cement plank.
Standard Fiber Cement System:
Primer/Sealer: 1 coat of Nippon Paint 5100 Wall Sealer or Aqua Sealer (essential for neutralizing alkali in new cement boards).
Finish: 2–3 coats of Nippon Paint Fibercote.
Self-Priming System (For Maintenance):
Finish: 2 coats of Nippon Paint Fibercote (ensure the old surface is cleaned and stable).
Curing & Dryness: New fiber cement boards must be dry and free from moisture. Ensure the moisture content is below 16% before application.
Cleaning: Remove all dust, dirt, oil, grease, and "laitance" (white powdery residue) from the board surface. Use a stiff brush or a damp cloth to clear the texture grooves.
Alkali Neutralization: Because fiber cement is highly alkaline, ensure the surface is properly aged or primed with an alkali-resistant sealer to prevent "efflorescence" (white salt patches).
Old Paint Removal: For repainting, scrape off all loose, flaking, or chalky paint. If the board was previously coated with an incompatible wax or oil-based product, it must be thoroughly cleaned or sanded.
Fungus Treatment: If the boards show signs of mold or algae growth, treat the area with Nippon Paint Fungicidal Wash. Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry completely before painting.
