Note: For new walls, ensuring a proper sealer coat is vital to prevent alkaline attack and improve the topcoat's color consistency.
Surface Condition: The substrate must be sound, clean, and completely dry. Remove all loose or peeling paint, dirt, grease, and powdery residue.
Moisture Content: Ensure the moisture content of the wall is below 16% as measured by a protimeter.
Alkalinity Level: The alkalinity of the wall should be below pH 9 to avoid "burning" or discoloration of the paint film.
Fungus/Algae Treatment: If fungus or algae is present, treat the area with Nippon Fungicidal Wash. Thoroughly rinse with water and allow to dry before painting.
Crack Repair: Fill minor cracks, holes, and surface defects with an appropriate interior masonry filler. Sand smooth and dust off before applying the primer.
