Nippon Paint Aqua Epoxy Primer is a high-performance, two-component water-based epoxy primer designed specifically for use on concrete and masonry surfaces. This environmentally friendly primer acts as an excellent tie-coat, providing superior adhesion between the substrate and subsequent high-performance topcoats. Its advanced water-based formula ensures low VOC levels and minimal odor, making it ideal for indoor applications such as hospitals, schools, and food preparation areas where air quality is critical. It is engineered to provide excellent resistance against alkalinity and moisture, effectively sealing the surface to prevent the degradation of finishing coats.
Paint Type: Water-based (Two-component)
Finishing: Low Sheen
Mixing Ratio: 4 parts Base to 1 part Hardener (by volume)
Pot Life: 2 hours at 30°C after mixing
Touch Dry: 1 hour (depending on temperature and humidity)
Hard Dry: 4 hours
Recoating Interval: Minimum 4 hours / Maximum 7 days
Theoretical Coverage: 9.0 m² per kg (at 50 microns dry film thickness)
Shelf Life: Up to 24 months in original unopened containers
Application Method: Apply using a high-quality Brush, Roller, or Compressed Air Spray.
Mixing: Stir the Base (Part A) thoroughly before adding the Hardener (Part B). Mix the two components using a power agitator for approximately 2–3 minutes until a homogenous mixture is achieved.
Dilution: If thinning is required for workability, add a maximum of 5% clean water only after the two components have been thoroughly mixed.
Cleaning: Clean all tools and equipment with clean water immediately after use.
Note: Do not apply the paint if the relative humidity exceeds 85% or if the substrate temperature is less than 3°C above the dew point.
Primer (1 Coat): Aqua Epoxy Primer.
Intermediate (Optional): Aqua Epoxy / Aqua Poxitane.
Topcoat (2 Coats): Aqua Epoxy / Aqua Poxitane / Fluorocarbon (for specific industrial requirements).
General Cleaning: Substrate must be clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, dust, and other contaminants.
Concrete Surfaces: New concrete must be allowed to cure for at least 28 days. Ensure the moisture content is below 4% and the surface pH is between 7 and 9.
Mechanical Preparation: Remove concrete laitance and achieve a suitable surface profile by captive shot blasting, diamond grinding, or wire brushing.
Repair: Fill cracks, holes, and surface imperfections with a suitable epoxy filler before applying the primer.
Existing Coatings: Old paint must be removed or abraded to ensure a good mechanical bond.
