Nippon Paint Tile Primer is a high-performance, two-component water-thinned epoxy primer designed specifically for "difficult" substrates where conventional paints often fail to adhere. It serves as an innovative "no-hacking" solution, allowing homeowners and professionals to renovate tiled areas without the mess and cost of removing old tiles. This universal barrier coating provides exceptional adhesion to glazed tiles, glazed brickwork, and smooth concrete floors. It acts as a superior tie-coat between single-pack coatings and two-pack solvent-based topcoats. Formulated to be environmentally friendly, it features low odor, low VOC, and built-in fungus resistance, ensuring a clean and durable foundation for both interior and exterior renovation projects.
Paint Type: Water-based (Two-component Epoxy)
Finishing: Matt
Mixing Ratio: 2.2 parts Base to 0.3 parts Hardener (by volume)
Pot Life: 1 hour after mixing (at 25-30°C)
Touch Dry: 1 hour (depending on temperature and humidity)
Hard Dry: 4 hours
Recoating Interval: Minimum 8 hours
Theoretical Coverage: 11.5 – 13.1 m² per litre per coat (at 35–40μm dry film thickness)
Shelf Life: Up to 24 months in a tightly sealed container
Application Method: Apply using a high-quality Brush or Roller.
Mixing: Stir the Base component thoroughly, then gradually add the Hardener component while continuing to stir until a homogeneous mix is obtained.
Dilution: Ready for use for brush and roller application. For conventional spray, thin with 25–30% water.
Cleaning: Clean all tools and equipment with clean water immediately after use.
Note: Use the mixture within 1 hour of mixing. If the primer is left for more than 6-7 days before topcoating, the surface should be lightly sanded to ensure proper inter-coat adhesion.
High-Performance System (Wet Areas - Bathrooms/Kitchens):
Primer (1 Coat): Tile Primer.
Topcoat (2 Coats): Aqua Epoxy / PU Recoatable Finish / EA4 Finish.
Conventional System (Dry Vertical Surfaces):
Primer (1 Coat): Tile Primer.
Topcoat (2 Coats): EasyWash / Odour-less AirCare / Weatherbond / Momento series.
General Cleaning: Surfaces must be dry, clean, and free from grease, oil, wax, and loose matter.
Tile Condition: Ensure all tiles are firm and not hollow. If tiles are loose, they must be repaired or replaced before priming.
Grout Lines: Thoroughly scrub grout lines to remove any accumulated soap scum, mold, or grease.
Dryness: The substrate must be completely dry before application to avoid trapping moisture, which can cause peeling or blistering.
Fungus Treatment: Treat any areas affected by fungus or algae with a suitable fungicidal wash and rinse thoroughly.
