Nippon Paint 1K Etching Primer is a high-performance, single-pack epoxy modified polyvinyl butyral (PVB) acid-catalysed etching primer. It is specifically engineered to provide exceptional adhesion to "difficult" substrates that standard primers struggle to bond with, such as galvanized steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and light alloys. The primer contains specialized etching agents that chemically "bite" into smooth metal surfaces to prevent peeling and flaking. Additionally, it contains anti-rust pigments that offer short-term corrosion protection in mild environments. As a fast-drying, single-component solution, it provides a convenient and reliable base for both single-pack and two-pack topcoats.
Paint Type: Solvent-based (Single Component)
Finishing: Matt
Color: Translucent Yellowish Green / Olive Green
Specific Gravity: 0.95 – 1.05
Solid Content: 15 ± 2% by volume
Touch Dry: Approximately 5 minutes (depending on temperature and humidity)
Hard Dry: Approximately 45 minutes
Recoating Interval: Minimum 4 hours
Theoretical Coverage: 10.0 m² per litre (at 15 microns dry film thickness)
No. of Coats: 1 coat
Shelf Life: Up to 12 months in a tightly sealed container
Application Method: Apply using Brush, Roller, Compressed Air Spray, or Airless Spray.
Mixing: Stir the material thoroughly before use. Since this is a 1K product, no hardener mixing is required.
Compressed Air Spray: Add about 10% thinner by volume.
Airless Spray: Up to 5% thinner by volume.
Cleaning: Clean all tools and equipment with Nippon Paint 2K Thinner 01 or a suitable NC thinner immediately after use.
Note: Apply in a thin, uniform film. Excessive film thickness (above 20 microns) may retard drying and affect adhesion.
Standard Alkyd System:
Primer (1 Coat): 1K Etching Primer.
Topcoat (2 Coats): Protective Finish FD.
Heavy Duty / Protective System:
Primer (1 Coat): 1K Etching Primer.
Intermediate (1 Coat): Micaceous Iron Oxide (MIO) or 8048 Zinc Phosphate Primer.
Topcoat (2 Coats): PU Recoatable Finish or EA9 Finish HB.
Non-Ferrous Metals (Galvanized/Aluminum): Thorough solvent degreasing to SSPC-SP1 is essential to remove all traces of oil, grease, and processing chemicals.
Steel Surfaces: For optimum performance, abrasive blast cleaning to Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1) is required.
General: Ensure the substrate is completely dry and free from dirt, dust, and rust before application.
