Nippon Paint Aqua Epoxy Primer

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Nippon Paint Aqua Epoxy Primer is a high-quality, two-pack waterborne modified amine-cured epoxy designed specifically for concrete floor surfaces. It serves as a high-performance "tie coat," providing exceptional adhesion between the concrete substrate and various water-based topcoats.

Because it is water-based, it is low-odour and environmentally friendly, making it the perfect choice for indoor renovations in occupied spaces such as offices, hospitals, schools, and residential homes. It penetrates deeply into the concrete pores to prevent peeling and ensures a long-lasting, durable finish.

TECHNICAL DATA

• Paint Type: Water-based (Two-component)

• Finish: Gloss (Milky White in liquid form)

• Mixing Ratio: 4 parts Base to 1 part Hardener (by volume)

• Pot Life: 1 hour after mixing at 25°C – 30°C

• Theoretical Coverage: 6.7 m² per litre (at 60μm dry film thickness)

• Drying Time (at 30°C):

  • Touch Dry: 2 hours

  • Hard Dry: 16 hours

• Recoating Interval: Minimum 16 hours

• Shelf Life: Up to 24 months in a tightly sealed container

• Pack Size: 5 Litres (4L Base + 1L Hardener)

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

• Mixing: Stir the Base (Part A) thoroughly. Gradually add the Hardener (Part B) while continuing to stir until the mixture is completely homogeneous. Use within 1 hour.

• Thinning: 
  •       Brush/Roller: Ready to use (or thin with 5–10% water if necessary).

  • Conventional Spray: Thin with 25–30% water.

• Application Method: Brush, roller, or spray. For floors, a short-nap mohair roller is recommended for a smooth finish.

• Cleaning: Clean all tools with clean water immediately after use.

RECOMMENDED COATING SYSTEM

To achieve the best results on concrete floors, follow this standard system:

1. Primer (1 Coat): Nippon Paint Aqua Epoxy Primer.

2. Topcoat (2 Coats): Nippon Paint Aqua Epoxy (available in various colors).

SURFACE PREPARATION

• General: The substrate must be clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, or standing water.

• Acid Etching: For new concrete, acid treatment with a 5% sulphuric acid solution is recommended to open the pores. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely (moisture content < 4%).

• Previously Painted Surfaces: Remove all loose or unstable paint films. Lightly sand the existing surface to improve mechanical bonding.

• Environmental Conditions: Do not apply if the relative humidity exceeds 85% or if the surface temperature is less than 3°C above the dew point.
