Nippon Paint 8048 Zinc Phosphate Primer QD

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Nippon Paint 8048 Zinc Phosphate Primer QD is a high-performance, two-pack epoxy polyamide coating designed for maximum durability. Specifically engineered as a "surface tolerant" primer, it is the ideal solution for protecting steel surfaces where abrasive blasting is not possible.

This primer features advanced rust-penetrating properties and anti-corrosion pigments, making it highly effective even on manually prepared (wire-brushed) rusty steel. With its high-build capability, it can provide up to 250 microns of dry film thickness in a single coat, acting as a formidable barrier against moisture and chemical attack in harsh industrial environments.
 

TECHNICAL DATA

• Paint Type: Solvent-based (Two-component Epoxy)

• Mixing Ratio: 1 part Base to 1 part Hardener (by volume)

• Pot Life: 3 hours after mixing (at 25°C – 30°C)

• Theoretical Coverage:
  •       9.0 m²/litre (at 100μm DFT)

  • 3.6 m²/litre (at 250μm DFT)

• Drying Time (at 30°C):

  • Touch Dry: 3 – 4 hours

  • Hard Dry: 16 hours

• Recoating Interval: Minimum 16 hours

• Shelf Life: Up to 24 months in a tightly sealed container

• Specific Gravity: 1.25 – 1.35 (Mixed)

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

• Mixing: Stir the Base component thoroughly. Gradually add the Hardener while continuing to stir until the mixture is completely homogeneous.

• Thinning:
  •       Brush/Roller/Airless Spray: Use SA-65 Thinner; add up to 5% by volume if necessary.

  • Compressed Air Spray: Add 10% – 15% thinner by volume.

• Application Method:
  •       Airless Spray: Recommended for achieving high-build thickness (Pressure: 140–170 kg/cm²; Tip: 0.015” – 0.017”).

  • Brush/Roller: Recommended for small areas or touch-ups only.

• Cleaning: Clean all equipment with SA-65 Thinner immediately after use.

RECOMMENDED COATING SYSTEM

For heavy-duty protective results on steel, use the following system:

1. Primer (1 Coat): 8048 Zinc Phosphate Primer QD.
2. Intermediate (1 Coat): Nippon 8048 (optional for extra thickness).

3. Topcoat (1-2 Coats): Nippon PU Recoatable Finish (for UV resistance) or Nippon EA4 Finish (for interior chemical resistance).

SURFACE PREPARATION

• Steel: For optimum performance, abrasive blasting to Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1) is preferred.

• Manual Cleaning: If blasting is not possible, mechanical cleaning to St 3 (ISO 8501-1) using wire brushes or power tools is acceptable.

•       Condition: The surface must be dry and free from oil, grease, dirt, and other contaminants. Zinc salts on galvanized surfaces should be removed by fresh water washing and scrubbing.

• Environment: Do not apply when relative humidity exceeds 85% or surface temperature is less than 3°C above the dew point.
