Indications (What it's used for)
- Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), either alone or with a thiazide diuretic.
- Management of congestive heart failure, especially in patients who do not respond well to diuretics or digitalis alone.
Dosage and Instructions
- Adults:
- For hypertension: Start with 25 mg two to three times daily. The dose can be increased to 50 mg three times daily, up to a maximum of 150 mg per day.
- For heart failure: Usually used together with a diuretic.
- How to take:
- Take at least one hour before meals for better absorption.
- Food can reduce absorption by 30–40%, so avoid taking it with meals.
