Digital Integrity: Notarizing Online Documents in Malaysia

With PJ being a hub for digital banking and e-commerce, a common challenge arises: how do you certify a document that only exists on a screen? Notaries have adapted to this by offering "verification via device." While the final notarized document must be physical (on paper with a red seal), Notaries can certify digital bank statements, utility bills, or e-certificates. The client is typically required to log into their portal on a secure device in the presence of the Notary. This ensures the Notary is not just looking at a printout—which could be doctored—but has witnessed the "live" digital original before certifying the hard copy.
