Why That 1% Active Ingredient Might Be the Reason Your Skincare Isn’t Working

If you’ve been using a skincare product consistently but still don’t see results, the problem may not be your skin , it’s often the active ingredient concentration.

In skincare, percentage matters. An ingredient can appear on the label, but if it’s included at too low a level, it won’t deliver visible improvement.

Why Active Ingredient Percentage Is Important

  • Retinol: Lower strengths such as 0.1% offer gentle renewal, while higher concentrations stimulate stronger collagen renewal and texture improvement
  • Niacinamide: Concentrations below 1% are unlikely to significantly improve pores, oil control, or uneven skin tone
  • Vitamin C: Usually requires around 10–15% to visibly brighten skin and reduce pigmentation

When these ingredients are under-dosed, the product may feel pleasant but fail to treat real skin concerns.

How to Tell If Your Product Is Too Diluted

Skincare ingredients are listed in descending order of concentration. This means:

  • The first few ingredients make up most of the formula
  • Ingredients listed near the end are present in very small amounts

If a “hero ingredient” appears low on the list, it is often included for marketing rather than performance. As a simple guide, the first 5–10 ingredients matter the most.

At Zenth Pore Specialist, we frequently see clients using expensive products that underperform simply because the active ingredients are too diluted. Understanding ingredient concentration helps you:

  • Avoid wasting money on ineffective skincare
  • Reduce unnecessary irritation
  • Support better skin recovery before and after treatments such as Beeswax Pore Laser, Pico Laser, Smart HIFU 13, and Milia Seed Removal

Sometimes, your skincare isn’t failing you ,  it just doesn’t contain enough of what your skin truly needs.
