Police Open Eight Investigation Papers Linked to 16th Johor State Election

Police have opened eight investigation papers linked to the 16th Johor state election covering the campaign period from Nomination Day on June 27 until Thursday (July 2).

State Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad confirmed that five of the reported cases involve arson-related mischief and other acts resulting in intentional property damage.

The reported offences are actively being investigated under three specific sections of the Penal Code:

  • Section 435: Mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage.
  • Section 426: Mischief causing damage to property.
  • Section 427: Mischief resulting in property damage amounting to at least RM250.

Despite the isolated incidents of property damage, Ab Rahaman stated that the general security situation across Johor remains peaceful and strictly under control. The police monitored over 1,155 political activities during the first week of campaigning to ensure compliance with legal frameworks and public order.

He affirmed that law enforcement remains on high alert with continuous personnel deployment across all 56 constituencies to maintain smooth traffic flow and safeguard public safety.

Ab Rahaman also issued a stern advisory urging political parties, candidates, machineries, and voters to strictly adhere to election laws and exercise political maturity. He strongly cautioned against any forms of provocation that could disrupt public harmony, as well as the dissemination of false or unverified narratives on social media platforms.

The 14-day campaign period for the 16th Johor State Election kicked off following nominations on June 27, leading up to Polling Day on July 11.
