Mitrajaya Secures New Data Centre Contract Worth RM54 Million

KUALA LUMPUR (April 14): Mitrajaya Holdings Bhd has secured another data centre-related construction contract in Kuala Lumpur from NEXTDC Sdn Bhd, this time valued at RM54 million.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia, Mitrajaya said the contract involves early works for the “KL1 Stage 4 Data Centre ST4-GC01”. The contract, which was accepted on March 2, is expected to be completed by October this year.

This latest award strengthens Mitrajaya’s ongoing involvement in data centre development projects with NEXTDC. Previously, the company secured a contract for the main works of the same data centre in January 2025. After several variation orders — including the most recent in January 2026 — the total value of that contract has risen to RM844.66 million.

NEXTDC first announced its plan to develop the KL1 data centre in 2023, with a long-term investment commitment of approximately RM3 billion in Malaysia over a period of five to 20 years.

What I Learned

From this article, I learned that the data centre industry in Malaysia is rapidly expanding, attracting major foreign investments such as from Australia-based NEXTDC. Companies like Mitrajaya are benefiting significantly from this trend by securing multiple contracts tied to the same large-scale project.

I also learned how construction contracts can increase in value over time through variation orders, reflecting additional work or project expansions. This shows that initial contract values may not fully represent the final scale of a project.

Lastly, the article highlights how long-term infrastructure investments, especially in digital infrastructure like data centres, are becoming a key growth area in Malaysia’s economy, potentially creating sustained business opportunities for local contractors.
