PROTON Records 22-Year High Sales with Strong Q1 2026 Performance

Proton has kicked off 2026 with an impressive performance, recording a total of 49,140 units sold in Q1 2026, marking a 40.1% year-on-year growth and its highest sales level in 22 years (since 2004). In March alone, the company delivered 15,706 units, contributing to an estimated 25.1% market share for the month and 27.4% year-to-date (YTD). This achievement is even more significant as it comes against the broader market trend, where the Total Industry Volume (TIV) declined by 4.9%, highlighting Proton’s strong momentum despite industry challenges.

The company’s new energy division, Proton e.MAS, continues to lead the way in electrification, maintaining its position as the No.1 EV brand in Malaysia. In March, e.MAS recorded 3,023 units sold, bringing its Q1 total to 6,701 units. Leading the charge is the e.MAS 5, which achieved 2,071 units in March, making it the best-selling EV in Malaysia. Meanwhile, the e.MAS 7 PHEV posted 646 units in its first full month of sales, and the e.MAS 7 EV continued its upward trend with 306 units sold, marking consecutive monthly growth.

Proton’s internal combustion engine (ICE) lineup also delivered strong results across multiple segments. The Proton Saga remains the backbone of the brand, with 5,438 units sold in March and a Q1 total of 21,770 units (+38%). The Proton X50 retained its leadership as the No.1 B-segment SUV, recording 3,265 units in March and 7,571 units in Q1 (+48%). The Proton S70 continues to dominate its category with 2,254 units sold, securing its position as the best-selling C-segment sedan. Additionally, the Proton X90 emerged as the No.1 D-segment 7-seater SUV, with 323 units sold in March.

Overall, Proton’s outstanding Q1 2026 results demonstrate its strength across both traditional ICE vehicles and new energy vehicles (EV & PHEV). With continued focus on innovation, fuel efficiency, and electrification, the brand is well-positioned to sustain its growth and reinforce its leadership in the Malaysian automotive market.
